Beyond the Limit: The Making of the Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND Campaign
Crewe, England – February 28, 2026 – In the world of performance automotive engineering, the drive for unparalleled speed and precision is often confined to test tracks and controlled environments. However, Bentley Motors recently shattered these conventions with the launch of its most audacious film to date, Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND, featuring motocross and rally legend Travis Pastrana. This production pushed the boundaries of engineering and logistics, transforming Bentley’s historic Crewe campus into an extreme performance playground.
While the final film captures the thrill of Travis Pastrana executing dynamic maneuvers on an industrial scale, the journey to this ground-breaking achievement involved a rigorous three-day production schedule, a crew of over 100 professionals, and a level of security unprecedented in the company’s history. This behind-the-scenes narrative reveals how Bentley engineers, designers, and production teams collaborated to reimagine the Bentley Supersports, creating a cinematic spectacle that not only showcases the car’s extreme capabilities but also pays homage to the brand’s rich heritage.
A Concept Born in the Spirit of Exploration
The genesis of the Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND project traces back to the development of the new Bentley Supersports in April 2025. Identifying an opportunity to create a radically different kind of film for Bentley, the team initiated internal discussions around a highly ambitious concept. Internally codenamed ‘Pymkhana’ – a portmanteau of the factory’s address, Pyms Lane, and the term gymkhana, which refers to a speed-based driving skill contest – the project quickly moved from concept to reality.
The prospect of transforming the Bentley campus into a stunt-ready environment was met with initial skepticism from some stakeholders. However, through meticulous planning and a clear demonstration of feasibility, the team secured approval from Bentley’s Board of Management. With the green light given, the project was handed over to Bentley’s Research and Development (R&D) department to engineer a Bentley Supersports development vehicle capable of handling the extreme demands of a professional stunt environment.
Engineering the “Monster” – A Deep Dive into the Technical Transformation
The transformation of the Bentley Supersports into the ‘Pymkhana’ star was a masterclass in automotive engineering. The objective was to remove production-level safety features and introduce functionality that would allow the car to execute the complex maneuvers required for the film. Bentley Engineering Manager Alistair Corner, who led the development of the specialized vehicle, provided insight into the technical challenges and solutions employed during the process.
“The mission for our ‘Pymkhana’ car was to turn the already-capable Supersports up to 11 – to remove all the safety features that the production version must include, and to add functionality to allow the car to dance around the narrow roads of our factory,” Corner explains. “The team of engineers that developed the car was outstanding, learning on-the-fly and coming up with creative solutions to turn the car into a monster. Crucially, what that special car can now do is an extension of the inherent ability within Supersports – the Pymkhana car is a Supersports without limits, that demonstrates what our chassis and powertrain can do when taken to the extreme.”
The most critical technical challenge was engineering a hydraulic handbrake capable of being integrated with the eight-speed double-clutch gearbox. This allowed the car to enter corners sideways rather than relying on power-oversteer. Furthermore, the electronic Limited Slip Differential (LSD) was adjusted for earlier locking, and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was permanently disabled. Special software changes were developed to enable both static and rolling burnouts, ensuring the vehicle could execute the aggressive drifts required for Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND.
While the star car was built to withstand the extreme demands of the shoot, the production team also prepared a second, back-up vehicle to mitigate the risk of damage to the primary car. Both cars were adorned with a bespoke, gymkhana-inspired design developed by graphic artist Deathspray and equipped with custom-painted 22” wheels. To generate the spectacular shower of sparks seen towards the film’s conclusion, a pair of titanium skid blocks were mounted beneath the star car’s underbody.
From Concept to Collaboration – Building a Dream Team
The success of Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND relied not only on the engineering prowess but also on the collaboration of a diverse group of professionals. Travis Pastrana, a celebrated figure in action sports, agreed to take the helm as the driver, bringing his signature style and experience to the project. Filming dates were set for September 26–28, 2025, requiring meticulous planning to ensure the safety of the participants and the integrity of the historic Bentley campus.
As a working factory, the Bentley campus presented a myriad of potential risks. Extra care was required to protect gas mains, fiber optic cables, water pipes, and the electrical supply to the entire factory, all of which were located within inches of some of the dynamic stunt locations. Scenes involving other vehicles, such as the car park chase with the Pikes Peak Bentleys or the Brooklands burnout sequence, necessitated additional coordination and included two precision drivers who worked in tandem with Travis Pastrana.
The Production: A Symphony of Logistics and Skill
The filming of Bentley Supersports: FULL SEND involved a squad of over 100 people, comprising both the production crew and supporting teams from across Bentley. The core production crew consisted of approximately 25 individuals, including two main camera operators, two drone operators, two minicams technicians, and a three-person team operating a purpose-built tracking car constructed from a first-generation Bentayga W12, equipped with a U-Crane arm.
Supplementing the production crew were a host of support teams, including a 10-person team of location marshals responsible for ensuring each location around the factory was completely cordoned off for filming. This group was supported by 25 vehicle specialists (working in two teams), a factory support team, medics, a fire crew, car wranglers, heritage car drivers, and a health and safety unit.
The filming days were incredibly intense yet exhilarating, as Bentley’s Head of Product Communications and Executive Producer for the project, Mike Sayer, commented:
“The filming days were incredibly intense but ultimately the most fun we’ve ever had at the campus. We were fortunate with the weather, and the star car, the supporting cast of vehicles and all the teams involved performed to an exceptional standard. Despite the beyond-the-limit driving involved, and speeds exceeding 120 mph, the only damage sustained to person or machine was one smashed wing mirror! I’m grateful to every single Bentley colleague who worked so hard to deliver this unique project for us.”
A Legacy on the Road – Easter Eggs and Heritage
After three days of filming and three months of editing, all led by the acclaimed director Jon Richards, the finished film was released in January 2026, containing 12 hidden ‘Easter Eggs’ for eagle-eyed viewers to spot. These subtle details pay homage to Bentley’s rich heritage and the evolution of its iconic models.
Among the most notable Easter Eggs are:
The 1999 Hunaudières Concept Car: A nod to Bentley’s concept design lineage.
