A2204039_Die arme Seele – angefahren und einfach liegen gelassen, als wäre ihr Leben nichts wert. #Adorable Beyond the Burnouts: The Engineering & Precision Behind Bentley’s ‘Supersports: FULL SEND’ Crewe, England – April 10, 2026 – In the rarefied world of ultra-luxury automobiles, performance is often synonymous with restraint. Precision engineering, whisper-quiet power delivery, and an almost serene composure define the Bentley experience. Yet, every so often, the marque unleashes a cinematic spectacle that intentionally shatters this composure, proving that underneath the handcrafted leather and polished veneer beats a raw, untamed heart. One such event was the production of Supersports: FULL SEND, a film that transformed the iconic Crewe campus into a playground for automotive acrobatics, featuring motorsports icon Travis Pastrana. For ten years, navigating the world of high-performance and luxury vehicles has taught me that the most compelling stories aren’t about the destination, but the impossible journey taken to get there. Supersports: FULL SEND is a masterclass in this philosophy. What appears on screen as effortless chaos—drifting, tyre smoke, and speeds nudging 120 mph—is actually the result of months of meticulous planning, a complete shutdown of a working factory, and a deep dive into custom tuning for extreme performance. Today, as the tire smoke finally clears, Bentley lifts the curtain on this audacious project. The company unveils a detailed Behind-the-Scenes look at how Supersports: FULL SEND was brought to life, a three-day shoot that involved over 100 professionals and resulted in the first-ever complete lockdown of the Bentley factory for such a dynamic performance. It also confirms the inclusion of 12 hidden ‘Easter Eggs’ for eagle-eyed viewers to discover. The Birth of Pymkhana: A Bespoke Build for Extreme Driving The concept for Supersports: FULL SEND originated in April 2025, sparked by the debut of the new Supersports model. Bentley recognized an opportunity to create a completely different type of film—one that would showcase the raw capability of the car, unburdened by the strict safety regulations of a production model. Internally codenamed ‘Pymkhana’ (a play on the factory’s address, Pyms Lane, and the sport of gymkhana), the project began with internal discussions that, surprisingly to many, confirmed its feasibility. Securing approval from Bentley’s Board of Management was the critical first step. Following the green light, the Research and Development (R&D) department at Bentley embarked on preparing a development vehicle designed to be as extreme as possible. This wasn’t a standard car off the line; it was a purpose-built machine pushed to its absolute limits. The mission was clear: turn the already capable Supersports into a canvas for Travis Pastrana’s gymkhana, requiring radical modifications to the chassis and powertrain. Custom Tuning for Extreme Performance: The Engineering Breakdown To understand Supersports: FULL SEND, one must appreciate the extraordinary engineering required. The Bentley team had to fundamentally alter the car’s electronic systems to allow for the kind of maneuvers Pastrana is famous for.
Electronic Systems Overhaul: The primary challenge was overcoming Bentley’s advanced electronic safety architecture. The team made several critical adjustments: Electronic Stability Control (ESC): This system, designed to keep the car planted and prevent slides, was permanently disabled. This allowed the car to maintain a state of controlled oversteer, essential for drifting. Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD): The eLSD was adjusted to provide early locking. In a standard car, the eLSD optimizes traction for grip; for gymkhana in Bentley, it was recalibrated to aid the rear axle in breaking traction on command. Custom Software: Special software changes were written to enable both static and rolling burnouts. This allowed the tires to spin and smoke continuously, generating the spectacular visual effects seen in the film. The Mechanical Maestro: The Hydraulic Handbrake: The most crucial engineering innovation was the design and installation of a working hydraulic handbrake. This mechanism, integrated with the eight-speed double-clutch gearbox, allowed the car to pivot sharply at low speeds—a cornerstone of modern gymkhana. Without this functionality, the car would have relied solely on power-oversteer (using engine torque to break traction), which is far less precise and harder to control in tight spaces. The hydraulic handbrake allowed Pastrana to throw the car sideways into tight corners, executing tight drifts through narrow factory corridors. Expert Insight: Alistair Corner, Bentley Engineering Manager: Alistair Corner, who oversaw the preparation of this special car, provided deep insight into the project’s philosophy: “The mission for our ‘Pymkhana’ car was to turn the already-capable Supersports up to 11—to remove all the safety features that the production version must include, and to add functionality to allow the car to dance around the narrow roads of our factory. The team of engineers that developed the car was outstanding, learning on-the-fly and coming up with creative solutions to turn the car into a monster. Crucially, what that special car can now do is an extension of the inherent ability within Supersports—the Pymkhana car is a Supersports without limits, that demonstrates what our chassis and powertrain can do when taken to the extreme.” This statement encapsulates the essence of Supersports: FULL SEND: the car was always capable, but custom tuning for extreme performance unlocked its hidden beast. Beyond the Star Car: Supporting Infrastructure and Precision Building a gymkhana monster is only one part of the equation. A film shoot of this magnitude requires a robust support system. Back-up Vehicle: Given the extreme nature of the stunts, a second, back-up car was prepared. This ensured that filming could continue uninterrupted even if the main vehicle sustained damage during the high-stakes maneuvers. Both cars featured a bespoke, gymkhana-inspired design by graphic artist Deathspray, complete with custom-painted 22” wheels. For the spectacular sparks seen later in the film, a pair of titanium skid blocks were mounted beneath the star car. The Star: Travis Pastrana: Travis Pastrana agreed to join the project as the driver, bringing his world-renowned expertise in rally and freestyle motocross to the tarmac of Bentley’s campus. The filming dates were set for September 26-28, 2025. Filming Logistics and Risk Management: Before filming could begin, every scene was planned and choreographed in detail. The primary goal was to minimize risk to the car, the driver, and the Bentley factory. As a working production facility, the number of potential hazards was immense. Extra care was needed to protect gas mains, fiber optic cables, water pipes, and even the main electrical power supply, all of which were dangerously close to the dynamic action. Scenes involving other vehicles, such as the car park chase sequence with the Pikes Peak Bentleys or the Brooklands burnout sequence, required additional coordination and included two precision drivers who worked alongside Travis to ensure safety and accuracy.
The Cinematic Experience: Behind the Scenes The filming of Supersports: FULL SEND involved a squad of over 100 people, split between the professional production crew and supporting teams from across Bentley. Production Crew: The main filming crew comprised approximately 25 individuals, including: Two main camera operators Two drone operators Two minicam technicians A three-person crew operating a purpose-built tracking car built from a first-generation Bentayga W12, complete with a U-Crane arm. Support Teams: To ensure a smooth and safe operation, extensive support teams were deployed: 10 Location Marshals: Responsible for guaranteeing that each location around the factory was completely closed off for filming. 25 Vehicle Specialists: Divided into two teams, managing the logistics of the vehicle fleet. Factory Support Team: Handling internal factory coordination and logistics. Medics, Fire Crew, Car Wranglers, Heritage Car Drivers: Providing essential safety and support services. Health and Safety Unit: Ensuring adherence to all safety protocols. The Shoot: Smooth Sailing, Minimal Damage Remarkably, the filming proceeded almost without a hitch, a testament to the exhaustive preparation. Mike Sayer, Bentley’s Head of Product Communications and Executive Producer, reflected on the experience: “The filming days were incredibly intense but ultimately the most fun we’ve ever had at the campus. We were fortunate with the weather, and the star car, the supporting cast of vehicles and all the teams involved performed to an exceptional standard. Despite the beyond-the-limit driving involved, and speeds exceeding 120 mph, the only damage sustained to person or machine was one smashed wing mirror! I’m grateful to every single Bentley colleague who worked so hard to deliver this unique project for us.” After three days of filming and three months of editing—both led by exceptional director Jon Richards—the finished film was released in January 2026. The film contains 12 ‘Easter Eggs’ for the most observant viewers. What This Means for You: Learning from the Best As a consumer, understanding the production of Supersports: FULL SEND offers valuable insights into automotive engineering and the limits of performance vehicles.
