Hommage Edition Marks a Revolutionary Milestone for Collectors A breathtaking collaboration between Bugatti and an unnamed collector has resulted in a one-of-a-kind creation, paying homage to the revolutionary Bugatti Veyron. This extraordinary automotive achievement transcends the boundaries of conventional design and engineering, celebrating the legacy of Professor Dr. Ferdinand Karl Piëch, the visionary who transformed Bugatti into an iconic symbol of hypercar excellence. The F.K.P. Hommage edition stands as a testament to Piëch’s unwavering commitment to pushing the limits of innovation, combining the timeless aesthetics of the original Veyron with cutting-edge technological advancements. The origins of the Bugatti Veyron trace back to the strategic vision of Ferdinand Karl Piëch. As the chairman of the Volkswagen Group, Piëch spearheaded the revival of the Bugatti brand, laying the foundation for a new era of hypercar engineering. His objective was to create a car that would redefine automotive performance, surpassing the limitations of existing vehicles. Piëch envisioned a car that would deliver exceptional power, speed, and luxury, all while maintaining the refined craftsmanship synonymous with the Bugatti name. Hendrik Malinowski, the managing director of Bugatti, expressed his admiration for Piëch’s dedication to innovation, describing him as a man who viewed challenges as opportunities for growth and excellence. “Piëch was a visionary leader who consistently pushed the boundaries of automotive engineering,” said Malinowski. “His commitment to creating the Bugatti Veyron was unwavering, and his vision for this revolutionary vehicle has shaped the trajectory of modern hypercars. The F.K.P. Hommage celebrates this legacy by honoring the man who dared to dream big and bring his ambitious vision to life.” The F.K.P. Hommage is built on the foundation of the Bugatti Chiron, the successor to the legendary Veyron. However, the chassis and the mighty 8.0-liter W16 engine are clad in custom carbon fiber bodywork, resulting in a truly bespoke automotive masterpiece. The design maintains the iconic silhouette of the Veyron while incorporating subtle refinements that enhance its overall aesthetics and performance. The new three-dimensional horseshoe grille, machined from a solid block of aluminum, flows organically into the surrounding bodywork, giving the car a more sophisticated and modern appearance. Larger air intakes were incorporated to feed the enhanced engine, while the Veyron’s signature air ducts, located behind the occupants’ heads, were retained to ensure optimal airflow. The new headlights are slimmer and more elegant, complementing the car’s refined design. The F.K.P. Hommage is fitted with new wheels—20-inch up front and 21-inch on the rear—utilizing Michelin’s latest tyre technology to provide unparalleled grip and handling.
The distinctive two-tone red and black paint scheme of the F.K.P. Hommage is a deliberate tribute to the first Bugatti Veyron ever produced back in 2005. This iconic color combination symbolizes the heritage of the Veyron and its groundbreaking contributions to the world of automotive engineering. Frank Heyl, the Design Director of Bugatti, shared his insights into the significance of the Veyron and its evolution. “The Veyron was a revolutionary vehicle that created a new segment in the automotive industry,” said Heyl. “It set new benchmarks for performance, speed, and luxury, and it continues to be a benchmark for modern hypercars. The F.K.P. Hommage celebrates this legacy by showcasing the enduring appeal of the Veyron and its timeless design.” Heyl recalled his early days at Bugatti when he was sketching developments of the Veyron, exploring how the styling could be evolved. While these projects never came to fruition, he believes that Professor Dr. Piëch foresaw the future need for these advancements. The interior of the F.K.P. Hommage features a unique steering wheel, center console, and tunnel cover that were machined from solid blocks of aluminum. These components bear a strong resemblance to the design of those found in the Bugatti EB 18.4 Veyron concept, which was unveiled in 1999. However, the centerpiece of the dashboard is an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon watch, which was integrated at the request of the car’s owner. This exquisite timepiece perfectly complements the car’s luxurious and sophisticated interior, adding a touch of exclusivity and refinement. Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, which powered both the Veyron and the Chiron, remains an extraordinary feat of packaging. By staggering the cylinders in a short and wide-bank configuration, engineers compressed what would typically be a meter-long powerplant into just 645 millimeters. This allowed for the Veyron’s remarkably compact 2,700mm wheelbase, roughly the same as a BMW 3 Series. The F.K.P. Hommage is powered by the final and more powerful evolution of the W16 engine, borrowed from the Chiron Super Sport. This engine produces a staggering 1,578bhp, allowing the car to fulfill Piëch’s ambitions of exceeding 300mph. Compared to the Veyron’s ‘mere’ 987bhp version of this engine, it features larger turbochargers, enhanced intercoolers, upgraded cooling systems, and a reinforced gearbox capable of withstanding the colossal 1,600Nm of torque it also produces. The F.K.P. Hommage is the second creation from Bugatti’s Solitaire programme, which is designed to produce up to two bespoke ‘masterpieces’ each year. Each masterpiece involves designers completely reimagining the bodywork and interior of the base car, offering customers the ultimate personalization experience while drawing from Bugatti’s rich heritage.
This extraordinary collaboration highlights the enduring appeal of the Bugatti Veyron and its continued relevance in the world of automotive engineering. The F.K.P. Hommage edition serves as a testament to the legacy of Professor Dr. Ferdinand Karl Piëch and his unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation. This revolutionary automotive achievement stands as a symbol of excellence, pushing the limits of design, engineering, and performance in a way that continues to define the hypercar landscape.
